Timber Joinery

We are now an authorised London Timber Windows & Doors retailer, offering the exclusive Wood & Home premium engineered timber range alongside our aluminium systems. These products are manufactured using high-quality engineered timber, combining authentic period detailing with modern performance, durability, and long-term stability. Whether you are replacing original features or working on a heritage-style project, our timber range is designed to deliver the correct aesthetic without compromise. You benefit from specialist specification support, a wide choice of designs, and the ability to compare timber alongside aluminium and other materials in one place—ensuring the right solution for your property with complete confidence.

Customised to all period styles

Many discerning clients, whether in a conservation area or not, seek new timber windows that closely resemble the original designs of their properties.

The Wood & Home range is designed to emphasise original features, including frame shapes, sashes, and beading patterns.

Furthermore, larger double-glazed glass units can be accommodated by skilfully adjusting beading angles to preserve aesthetic integrity.

Period shapes and dimensions are faithfully replicated for clients requiring stained glass, glazing bars, or Georgian panes.

Notably, this level of customisation incurs no extra cost, as the factories stock most materials and can swiftly adjust machinery to meet specific design requirements.

Crafted for minimal maintenance

For timber enthusiasts, authentic timber casement windows are unrivalled in appearance. Regular repainting is essential for maintaining their look and prolonging their lifespan.

The design of these windows maximises the intervals between repainting cycles while facilitating quick and easy repainting when the time arrives.

This is achieved by applying an end-grain sealant that protects against moisture and rot. Grade A heartwood is used, free from knots, which prevents paint damage. The frame design features rounded edges for even paint application.

Four coats of paint are applied to ensure a durable finish that lasts up to ten years without repainting. Additionally, Teknos microporous paint is utilised, which allows the timber to breathe and retain moisture.

When it’s time to repaint, this water-based paint can be applied directly over the existing paint, eliminating the costly stripping and priming required for oil-based paints.

Engineered for longevity

We specify engineered timber as standard. Engineered timber is treated to boost its strength and durability, reducing warping and twisting that may lead to draughts and put stress on ironmongery and double-glazed sealed units.

There are two engineering techniques: soaking the timber in acetic acid (acetylation) or, preferably, slicing the frame into strips and re-glueing them with the grain aligned in opposite directions for each layer.

The advantage of this cross-grain lamination is that as the wood expands and contracts with seasonal changes, each layer helps resist the bending of the neighbouring strip.

Additionally, the inherent dynamic stability of engineered timber helps prevent the thinning and cracking of paint coatings, which could otherwise lead to rotting and UV damage to the wood.

Exceptional warmth specification

Traditional timber casement windows can feel cold and draughty, deteriorating as the frames and sashes age.

In winter, it’s like sitting near a fan-assisted fridge. To enhance the warmth of our timber windows by up to 20%, surpassing the latest uPVC or aluminium double glazing, we use a double rebate frame instead of the standard single rebate. This design includes two weather seals instead of one.

For lasting draught proofing, we install high-compression multi-point hinges and cam slide locking mechanisms that secure the sashes to the frames. We also utilise advanced multi-pane glazing with warm-edge spacer bars and heat-reflective soft-coat low-e glass.

This glass reflects heat into the room while allowing solar radiation to pass through. Additionally, the gap between the panes is filled with gas, ensuring a pleasant atmosphere near the windows even on the coldest winter days.

Superior security & soundproofing

The standard design of the double-rebated frame effectively minimises noise from traffic and other disturbances.

This noise reduction is sustained over time because of the engineered frames’ dynamic stability. For enhanced soundproofing, you may opt for 9mm acoustic glass, which, when paired with the double-rebated frames, decreases noise by an impressive 42 decibels, comparable to the difference between being next to a bustling road and sitting in a serene library.

The standard installation of high-compression roller cams and locking friction hinges, combined with anti-jimmy hinge defenders, effectively thwarts attempts to open the sashes from outside.

You can choose 6.8mm security laminated glass for enhanced protection for the outer pane. This glass appears to be regular glass but is shatterproof, similar to a car windshield.

Period Ironmongery options

Stylish locking handles are available in various standard colours, catering to different tastes and preferences.

In addition to the standard options, you can also select from an extensive array of period handle styles, including elegantly crafted teardrop and charming monkey tail designs.

With the recent introduction of advanced friction hinges, there is no longer a need to install a peg stay to keep the window securely open or to use visible butt hinges on the exterior of the window frame.

However, you prefer one or both of these traditional period ironmongery styles that work perfectly in their dummy or functional versions. In that case, that appealing option remains readily available for your selection and enjoyment.

Fully finished installation

Your quotation includes a complete installation by experienced craftsmen.

This means all interior architraves around the windows will be renewed and painted to match the windows’ finish. If plaster is damaged, it will be re-plastered to restore integrity.

Please note that you are responsible for any necessary painting or wallpapering that may arise. The same applies outdoors; any render, timber work, or cement related to a window will be renewed on a like-for-like basis to ensure quality.

This approach provides a seamless experience, keeping all services under one roof and from the same supplier. From the initial survey to supply, installation, finishing touches, and guarantees, everything is managed consistently for your convenience and peace of mind

Your Guarantee

After successful installation, rest assured your windows are backed by an extensive warranty: a 10-year guarantee for frames and paint finish, 5 years for double-glazed units, and a 12-month warranty for ironmongery.

Note that this guarantee covers issues from faulty workmanship or defective materials, not accidental damage from your actions.

Opting for replacement casement windows means your project will be registered with FENSA (Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme). After installation, you’ll receive a certificate from FENSA, confirming compliance with current thermal performance building regulations.

This ensures both the fitters and the installation company are FENSA approved, giving you confidence in the quality and compliance of your new windows. “Please note this does not apply to new builds, which are governed differently.”
