How The Green Homes Grant Scheme Can Help You

If you are considering making some improvements to your home, you need to look at the government’s Green Homes Grant Scheme. You can get two-thirds of your home improvements paid for at a value of up to £5,000 if you install energy-efficient improvements. Here at Jennyfields, we are specialists in steel window replacements and have been approved to accept vouchers for the scheme to improve the efficiency of your homes.

How It Works

Anyone who owns their own home, park home or is a residential landlord is eligible for the scheme. The only exception is newly built homes that haven’t been previously occupied. You simply need to apply online, stating the improvements you would like to make. You will then receive a voucher for each of the measures you have applied for which will cover labour, materials and VAT.

What Can The Voucher Be Used For?

The voucher can be used for a wide range of home improvements but has to include one of the following primary measures:

Insulation

The following insulation measures are covered by the voucher:

  • solid wall insulation (internal or external)
  • cavity wall insulation
  • under-floor insulation (solid floor, suspended floor)
  • loft insulation
  • flat roof insulation
  • pitched roof insulation
  • room in roof insulation
  • insulating a park home

Low carbon heat

The following low carbon heating measures are covered by the voucher:

  • air source heat pump
  • ground source heat pump
  • solar thermal (liquid-filled flat plate or evacuated tube collector)
  • biomass boiler
  • hybrid heat pump

If you install at least one of the primary measures, you can then redeem a voucher for any of the following secondary measures:

Windows, doors, insulation and draught-proofing

The following measures are covered by the voucher:

  • draught-proofing
  • hot water tank insulation
  • double or triple glazing (where replacing single glazing)
  • secondary glazing (in addition to single glazing)
  • external energy-efficient replacement doors (replacing single glazed doors, or doors installed before 2002)

Heating controls and insulation

The following measures are covered by the voucher:

  • hot water tank thermostat
  • hot water tank insulation
  • heating controls (such as appliance thermostats, smart heating controls, zone controls, intelligent delayed start thermostat, thermostatic radiator valves)

How The Scheme Can Help You

The scheme will not only cover two-thirds of your costs up to a value of £5,000, saving you a substantial amount of money. It also encourages you to improve the efficiency of your home, dramatically helping the environment by reducing emissions. What’s more, while the reduced energy use helps you to be more eco-friendly it also gives you a further saving on your heating bill.
